First Baptist Day Care was established as a community service and is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (DJFS). The day care is a self‑supported, non‑profit outreach of the First Baptist Church of Lima, Ohio.
Our goal is to help children develop to their fullest potential socially, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. This will be accomplished by providing a caring and loving environment for each child's personal growth.
Our day care director and teachers are well qualified, through education and/or experience. We provide services to all children regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or disability.
We operate January to December, Monday through Friday from 6:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. We close for major holidays; New Year's, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

First Baptist Day Care first opened its doors on September 5, 1986. More than two decades later,we never dreamed that we would have grown so much. In the beginning we were licensed for 36 children ranging from 3 years to 5 years of age. We are now licensed for 136 children and our ages range from 6 weeks old to fourth grade. Our enrollment runs really close to our capacity each month. We currently are serving 89 families from Allen, Auglaize, Van Wert and Putnam counties. First Baptist Day Care is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family services out of the Toledo office and we maintain a food service license with the Ohio Department of Health.
Our day care has 21 staff members, most of whom are mostly full‑time. This number also includes a cook and two Head Start Teachers. We operate all year round Monday through Friday and are open 6:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Even though our name says "day care", we also include preschool in a rich learning environment for all of our age groups. Our staff attends professional development trainings often so they can always prepare fun and exciting lessons for their classes. The teachers are responsible for daily lesson plans and they follow a curriculum to prepare these children for a lifetime of learning. The classes take field trips multiple times throughout the year and we invite community speakers to come in and share their knowledge with the children often. The pastor prepares Bible stories that he shares with them every Wednesday. We plan many events during the year that include the whole family. Some of these are the Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Program, Spring Family Picnic, Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast, Grandparent's Day and many more that the teachers come up with during the year.
Another important aspect of First Baptist Day Care are the many community partnerships that we have developed over the past 20 years. Some of these include Head Start/Early Learning Initiative, Early Head Start, our local and surrounding county DJFS agencies, OPT Center/Lima City Schools, YW Child Care Connections resource and referral agency, Apollo Early Childhood Education program, Ohio State and James A. Rhodes College Early Childhood Programs, Step Up To Quality, Ohio's Infant, Toddler and After School Initiatives, the United States Department of Agriculture Food Program, and many more. This really keeps us busy, but is so very fortunate for the children and families that we serve.
Quality child care is essential for our children this day and age. With both parents in the family having to work, this makes our job so much more important. Many children spend 2/3 of their day in child care, and it is very important that the children have a safe, secure, and healthy environment in which to learn and grow. We have enjoyed growing and changing here at First Baptist Day Care for the last 20 years and we hope to be here for even more changes for the next 20 years.
